Honduras Coup Anniversary: Women Leading Resistance, 28 minutes, 2010

On May 16th, 2011, Israeli naval forces opened fire on The Spirit of Rachel Corrie, a Malaysian ship carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza. International human rights advocates talk about that incident as well as the Freedom Flotilla I, an international fleet of aid ships that Israeli forces attacked in May, 2010, killing nine civilians. The interviewees, organizers with the Free Gaza Movement and a passenger on the Malaysian ship, comment on the ship’s namesake, Rachel Corrie, and her contributions to the international solidarity movement and discuss the Freedom Flotilla II, set to sail soon after broadcast. Produced  for the Women’s International News Gathering Service (WINGS). Broadcast internationally. Full piece available here.
On June 28, 2010,  an estimated 500,000 people took to the streets to protest the military ousting of Honduran President, Manuel Zelaya that occurred on the same date a year earlier.  Human Rights advocates talk about resistance to the coup and repression by the military regime.
